Turning ordinary electricity meters into smart meters.
Yurika is part of Energy Queensland – the largest, wholly government-owned electricity company in Australia. Their metering group provides intelligent metering technology and data insights.
Challenge
Create a 4G LTE modem enabling the cost-effective upgrade of existing non-smart or 2G enabled electricity meters.
As the 2G network is turned off, the LIM-400 and LIM-505 products have enabled Yurika to maintain remote monitoring of thousands of existing meters via the CAT1 and CATM1 networks.

Benefitting from local development.
Yurika’s transition from 2G to 4G LTE touched multiple stakeholders across their large organization. As a local organization, IntelliDesign was physically well positioned to offer extensive support and customization.
Software support was especially important for Yurika, and the direct communication between the respective engineering teams facilitated the successful tackling of many systemic and logistic challenges.
Environmentally small.
Energy Queensland governance policies set out a strong commitment to environmental responsibility. Even in a product as small as the LIM, there is opportunity to minimize the lifetime environmental footprint of the product.
The LIM utilizes plastic free packaging, manufactured locally from recycled cardboard. Products are packaged in bulk, but remain individually protected to ensure they arrive onsite in good condition and ready for installation.
The product is designed for disassembly. The enclosure is free of fasteners and can be unclipped and separated in a matter of seconds. A single resin type is used for all of the housing plastic parts.
